Israeli-American ‘Ashkelon Hacker’ Extradited to Face U.S. Charges
Michael Kadar, the 27-year-old Israeli-American known as the “Ashkelon hacker,” is back in the United States after being extradited from Norway.
He now faces a federal indictment that could send him to prison for up to 35 years.
Kadar was arraigned this week in Florida following years of legal battles. He had already served seven years in an Israeli prison for making terrorist-style threats, which caused massed panic. When asked the reason behind it all, he claimed he was simply bored.
Anyhow, after his release, he ended up in Norway, where U.S. authorities caught up with him.
What He Is Accused Of
Federal prosecutors say Kadar made at least 245 threatening phone calls to Jewish institutions across the country back in 2017.
Many of those calls targeted Jewish Community Centers in Florida, including ones with preschool programs. This man claimed bombs and active shooters were inside.
The threats caused widespread panic, forced evacuations and lockdowns, and tied up emergency responders, even though no actual explosives were ever found.
He also stands accused of making threats against the Israeli Embassy and the Anti-Defamation League in Washington, D.C., and cyberstalking, plus false police reports in Georgia. Investigators say he used spoofed phone numbers, proxy servers, and other tools to hide his tracks while operating from his home in Ashkelon.
Serious Federal Charges and Potential Consequences
Hate crimes, bomb threats, blocking people from practicing their religion—those charges come with serious consequences.
His lawyers have brought up his past sentence in Israel, his health issues, and how hard detention has been on him. Even so, the U.S. government isn’t backing down—they’re pressing charges in several districts.
Why Strong Legal Representation Matters
Facing federal extradition and multiple serious indictments is an incredibly complex situation. A good defense lawyer can dig into the evidence, challenge how the case was built, explore constitutional issues, and work toward the best possible resolution — whether through negotiations or trial.
